THE ARTISTRY The clean and simple lines of Lastra, Italian for "slab", were inspired by the circular wooden slab used for centuries to create the outer mold in cheese making throughout Italy. When fashioned together with twine, the hoop was left with a slight overlap to help maintain the shape of the cheese mold. Maestro molder Stefano Roselli incorporates the overlapping detail into the entire design, from its foot to its rim. A dark dusting on the edges of each piece suggests the ash that was used to preserve these cheeses and highlights each unique silhouette. MASTERFULLY HANDCRAFTED Signor Stefano Roselli is the master molder for a ceramics cooperative located in a small town seven miles outside of Florence, and he is the creator behind this collection. VIETRI has worked with Stefano and factory owner Franco Ammannati for close to 15 years, creating and bringing to market dinnerware collections, vases, urns, and other home decor products. INSPIRED IN ITALY A region in central Italy, Tuscany is known for its landscapes, history, craftsmanship, and influence on culture. As the birthplace of the Renaissance, Tuscany is often called the art palace of Italy, and many of the world's greatest works of art come from the region. Ceramics have a long legacy in the area and maintain their place of importance in the region today.
